I'm so very confused by this CD. It amazes me each time a new album comes in the mail to be considered for review that each one gets more and more strange. This album is called THE SAGE-QUEST OF UNKNOWN MUSTANG. Can anyone tell me what the hell this means? Can someone explain to me what kinds of drugs these guys are taking?
So, as far as hippies go, I don't trust many of them. Other than granola, they haven't given back to society much of anything. I'm not sure if the people in Dick Taut and the Ripcords are hippies, but I've got my suspicions. I know that they have some sort of facination with bongs, dicks, the devil, and words that are probably made up. I also know that hippies are into those sorts of things. Hippies wear pants that feel good in the summer time - and Dick Taut has been known to wear some versions of pants (this is a rumor, but in time you all will know the truth).
I will admit that I'm a fan of some OUTSIDER music - which is mainly what this album comes to. It's a strange blend of jazz, blues, folk-rock, electronic, and random voices that make their own sounds. Dick Taut's version of Pay to Cum was kind of fun. When I was a young whippersnapper back in high school I formed a punk band that liked to cover this song. Of course, WE didn't use a keyboard. But, Dick Taut has a nice little spin on things.
If you're a fan of song titles, this may also be a band for you. It's kind of fun to read these titles to your friends who are standing in the same room as you while you pop the CD in for the first time. Would you like to know my favorite titles? Alright. They are:
How Much Dick Can You Take
The Devil Stomped James Power's Ass
The Snoke Does Bongs
Dick Taut Versus the Devil
Where Da Weed At
Whether those songs are good or not is definately up for debate. I'll admit that I sway my head from side to side while listening to THE DEVIL STOMPED JAMES POWERS ASS, but THE SNOKE DOES BONGS is really shitty. There's nothing good I can say about that one. Another semi-terrific song would have to be WHERE DA WEED AT because it's very jazzy and swing-like. The lyrics are pretty much what you might imagine. They talk about weed. The illegal kind. They lost it and now they're trying to find it.
So, in closing, this is the kind of album for people who like OUTSIDER MUSIC, or jazz music, or strange sounds coming from their CD players, or even people who like to take drugs and have an atmosphere around them to help the drugs take advantage of their souls.
Wanna check out their music? Go to their MYSPACE page! And remember, don't use myspace to solicite young girls. That's bad. |
