I give this movie 5 stars - out of a 4 star rating. It's a really well-done movie. I'm just sorry I haven't read the books yet. I give the 5th star to the movie because of all the controversy it's brought to the table for no reason. Where I live, certain people believe that by watching a movie, you will change your views on religions altogether and rise up to destroy Christianity. I know, I know, that's silly. But, some people believe that here. They also believe that your eternal soul is damned to hell if you gamble - or play McDonalds Monopoly. Yet that is another story.
I was completely entertained by this movie. The beginning seemed a little bit slow, but that was to really give you a sense of who the characters were. I must applaud a film that makes me hate Nichole Kidman in the way this film does. I wanted to chop her head off. Then, with the headless corpse, I wanted to entertain myself by throwing large objects into the tubes coming out of her open neck. I can think of some pretty interesting things from there...
This movie has an all-star cast. It's a great sci-fi flick that is actually quite fierce at times. I'm glad it has a PG-13 ratting, but there is no reason for people to think HELL, I WON'T SEE THIS MOVIE UNLESS IT'S RATED R. It's not a wimpy film. It's very grown up - but also viewable for kids.
If you like magic, wonderment, surprise, symbolism, controversy, fighting, children being brainwashed, polar bears, futuristic cowboys, golden compasses, people getting what they deserve, talking animals that change shapes, witches, and to be entertained for two hours - then this is the movie for you.
Watch it over and over again. |
