Well, FALCON MOWHAWK just sent me their demo CD recently, so I guess their expecting a review about how they sound. I think I can manage that.
Alright, well I'm very excited by the cover picture. I like a band that can call themselves something cool like FALCON MOWHAWK and have a nice little drawing of a bird with a mohawk. I'm down with that. Let's give these guys some points for the cool logo. The main track SPIT & SPANK is really where the whole band seems to be coming from. They apparently like to spit and spank and raise up hell - southern style. It's not too heavy and it's not too calm. I like it. Let's just leave with this song. This is the type of song that I want to hear a band open up with and then close a show with. Let's just play it a bunch. It's the song that people should know this band for. It's like the ACHY BREAKY HEART song for that one Country singer who had a wicked mullet. That was his signature song. Well, SPIT AND SPANK should be Falcon Mohawk's signature tune, too.
The other songs on this album I'm not such a large fan of. I kept hearing them and expected some weird chorus to break out at any moment and SPIT AND SPANK to come blaring back on. In fact, I did that a couple of times. I switched back over to SPIT AND SPANK just for that purpose. It made each song sound better to me.
So, like I said before, this is just a demo CD. Well, that's what I'm hoping. There's only 4 songs on here. It's not much of an album if you're trying to sell that to the masses. But, as a demo, it's pretty good. I suggest you go to see them once or twice and get a copy of this album. Oh, but you'd better make sure they play SPIT AND SPANK at the beginning and end of their set. That's the only way this will work.
