You know, it's weird. I haven't been to MySpace in a while (because I have a life) and because of that, I haven't been noticing how crazy it's been getting over there. I've heard the rumors that everyone has MySpace pages (I have one, and this website has one - which hasn't and won't get updated ever), but I hadn't realized the amount of corporate ties to MySpace that is on there now. All UP AND COMING BANDS have signature MYSPACE accounts that are professionally done and don't look anything like the original layout. Ads for energy drinks and extreme sports are on all the pages. It's nuts, folks.
Does anyone even remember what the internet was like before MYSPACE? There were other sites that came before that one that offered people the opportunity to make a free web page to meet other people with similar interests. Did you ever see WWW.MAKEOUTCLUB.COM before joining up with MYSPACE? There were a ton of other sites, too, but because I'm becoming an old, cranky, unloved man, I can't remember them.
I was doing a little bit of research and found that Myspace boasts over 300 million accounts. That's a fuck-ton of people. I know there are a lot of people with multiple accounts, but really folks, that's a lot of pages. It's kind of hard to socially network with the same people now, because there's so many people on there. Hell, isn't almost not worth making websites like this anymore, because it seems that the people just want to chat on Myspace. They want to leave comments on other's pages and collect the most amount of FRIENDS. Even celebrities and well-known musicians have MYSPACE accounts. It's a very trendy thing to do these days. Every movie that comes to theaters has a myspace account (check out MY NAME IS ERIC just to be fair) and directors have their accounts so you can read what they've been up to in the past week. Most of them are sailing on boats - for your information.
I know that I'm just ranting about nothing here, but what does MYSPACE really offer everyone anymore? I guess it's still a good time-waster - just like the Biggest Letdown. |
