One of the things I like about reviewing music is that we get all sorts of crazy submissions in the mail. Anything from ladies who play keyboards, to fat hairy men who don't know what TAKING OBSESSION TOO FAR means. Then, there's DICK TAUT AND THE RIPCORDS. You may notice that this is the second album I've reviewed of theirs. They know how to churn out the hits.
What I like about DICK TAUT is the way their music is strange - yet compelling. Like watching a man satisfy a tree, you want to be repulsed, but you can't stop watching. In this case, it's the music. All the songs seem to be completely different from each other, yet they all match up perfectly. I'm not going to understand these guys, but I like what I hear. When I listen to this album, I keep thinking about early BECK albums. That's a pretty good comparison, actually. Think of a strange, new BECK.
Alright, the songs that jump out at me are RAGNAR ROCK. It's like a funky, rocky, fun song. Jesus, if someone made an entire album of this song, I'd be in heaven. Guys, you need to think about releasing a version of this that's half an hour long. That would be sweet. Another song I like is PIRATE A LONG WAY FROM HOME. It's like a ballad - about a pirate. Again, this is gold, fellas. Great job. Another funk song that really catches my attention is YOU KNOW THE REST. Very cool. Very funky. Very awesome.
I've searched the internet and seen that some people have given you all awful reviews. I don't think that's fair. You're better than that. You're Dick Taut. Keep your heads up and think about your music. The fans will like it. You need to check these guys out. Buy this CD. Support them. Win the war on Terror.
