Have you ever tried something new? Of course you have. That's a stupid question. Let me try this again. Have you ever tried something new that you started out liking - and then halfway through it, realized that you hated it? A perfect example of what I'm talking about is the band HANSON. Man, the first time I heard the opening to MMM, BOP I was hooked! It sounded like heavenly trumpets playing out of angels mouths - until I got near the end of the song. Instantly I exclaimed WAIT A SECOND! THIS SONG SUCKS! IT'S TOTAL SHIT! Well, that's a good way for me to describe Richard D. Shank's album. Sorry, Shank.
There is no rhyme or reason for the albums that get sent to the Biggest Letdown headquarters for review. Every one of them is different in their own way. Apparently any genre is mailed to us. I have a hard time classifying this one, though. Upon first listen, it sounds like Stadium Christian rock. I can't imagine this guy NOT performing in a stadium. It's how the songs are laid out. There's a rockin' guitar, a loud piano, and some reverb on his voice tracks. This is classic Christian stadium rock, right?
But wait, there's no mention of classic stadium Christian Rock lyrics in here. Sure, there's songs about a journey he took throughout his youth (but who hasn't taken one of those, Richard?), he learns to live on the second track, and he asks the question IF I COULD to follow up on the third song. Well, I want to know what you would do if you could, Mr.?
This is the point of the review where I wanted to NOT classify this as classic Stadium Christian Rock, but as I listen to it again and again, I have to keep that opinion. That's what this is. If you like this genre of music and you haven't heard of Richard D. Shank yet, then I might as well introduce you. Here he is, folks. Give him your money.
