Am I disturbed for watching a documentary about Snuff movies and if they really exist? Or, would you say that I'm disturbed for knowing about having seen most of the films that they talk about in this movie? Look, I'm not into real death. I have to go to horrible car wrecks on a regular basis and I know one thing - real death isn't good. In fact, it's bad. I've seen it. I don't want to see it if I don't have to, but I've seen it. Horror films are amazing to me. I love them. I can't get enough. The more real, the better. But, there's a big line that I draw in the sand between movie magic and the real deal. THAT'S why I watched a documentary discussing the urban legend of SNUFF FILMS.
This is a really well put-together documentary. It's chilling and creepy. It's informative and entertaining. There's interviews with former detectives and FBI agents. They say that real SNUFF FILMS don't exist. But what - really - is a snuff film? It's a film that shows real death on camera, right? Well, what about all the war videos and are flying all over the internet? What about the films that Leonard Lake and Charles Ing (serial killers) made when they tied women up in their home, raped them, tortured them, and eventually killed them - ON FILM? That's a real snuff film, right? Maybe the fact that they weren't distributing those videos might classify it as something else.
Personally, I believe in the urban legend of SNUFF FILMS. I think that they exist. I've never seen one, and I don't want to see one, but I believe that there are people out there who are making these movies. For me, I'll stick to horror movies.
