Fangoria's Weekend of Horror - PART 2 |

 So, Kevin and I recently came back from Chicago for FANGORIA'S WEEKEND OF HORROR convention. There's so much that happened in 3 (very, very long) days that we've decided to share different stories over the next few weeks. From the people we met, to the food we ate, to the crazy antics we saw and did, we had one hell of an amazing time. This is the second installment:
THE SKATEBOARD
So, Kevin and I were trying to decide what we wanted to bring with us on this trip to have autographed by such horror legends as HERSHAL GORDON LEWIS, BILL MOSELY, TOM TOWLES, CAROLINE WILLIAMS, DOUG BRADLEYand even GEORGE ROMERO. I wanted to do something a little bit different from all the other people at the convention, and I thought WHAT BETTER ITEM TO BRING THAN A BLANK SKATEBOARD?
Well, the skateboard proved to be a huge success, and people all started recognizing me as THAT KID WITH THE SKATEBOARD. I had everybody sign it and horror celebrities were thrilled when they saw me coming around. It was a great conversation starter, too. I'm glad that the skateboard went over so well and we (Kevin and I) didn't go with our original plan of walking around with a torso of a mannequin (which stayed in the trunk of my car the entire weekend). Maybe we'll do that next year.
GEORGE A. ROMERO WANTS TO SEE YOUR FILM
 What do you say when someone as iconic as George Romero says that he PERSONALLY wants to see your film (or, in my case, documentary)? Well, if you're like me, then you do whatever it takes to get that film into his hands. At the convention George and I were talking and we got into a discussion about my documentary about the wild and crazy like of my friend named Eric (buy it here, folks). George seemed really interested in it, and told me that he wants to see it. WHAT?!?!?! Great!!!
We agreed that I'd go to his booth on Sunday before I left for Alabama and I'd personally give him a copy of the documentary. I am not going to screw this chance up, folks. This is what networking is all about! If George Romero wants to see your stuff, then you're going to show it to him! I ended up waiting in line for 2 freakin' hours before I could give him a copy (and have him sign the mighty skateboard) but I did it. He got excited when he saw that I had remembered to bring the film. He told me that he'd personally watch it in the next few weeks and that he's going to get back in touch with me about it. Wow! Did he really say this to me? Yes, yes he did. And, I promise I'll be posting his response (good or bad) up on this site when that happens.
In the mean time, you can support me and indie film, by buying a copy or two of MY NAME IS ERIC. It'll make you feel good to buy something again. |
